I love a lot of stuff. I also hate a lot of stuff. So here's the list of things that will forever be on Yaz's Love/Hate list. Geez, I've gotta start updating this thing more often. Anyways, life's been hectic as usual. Holidays have come and gone and now it's 1999 and back to the same old grind. Lecture lecture lecture reading reading paper paper paper test test test. *sigh* Ah, well. Let's see, what else? Well, I've got a ton of articles to write 'cause we're way behind deadline for Glint. Bad us! At the end of the month, it's off to Ottawa for me to play spectator/reporter at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships. Can't wait! On the computer front, yes, I'm still an e-mail junkie, and my total number of webpages with all my linking pages now totals something like 120. :) Now onto the current obsessions list. :) SKATEFIC ONLINE: Those of you who know me know that over the last few years, I discovered a great form of escapism writing known as Skatefic. Skatefic, basically, is any kind of fictional writing about figure skating. For me, it's a chance to forget all writing restraints and be as shamelessly Harlequinesque as I please. :) Anyways, lately, I've been putting some of my trash online, and it's spawned two epic pages as well as a Yaz's Skatefic Headquarters. Check out Beyond the Ice to figure out what I'm talking about. SPIRIT: My favourite pop-folkie, Jewel, finally released her sophomore CD. It's called Spirit, and I love it. It's been getting non-stop play in my CD-ROM drive, especially track 11. Check out Hands for the lyrics to the first single off this new CD. ANNA QUINDLEN: Sometimes, movie adaptations of books can be a good thing... in more ways than one. When One True Thing first came out late last year, I knew it would be my kind of movie, and it was. Right after I saw it, I went straight out and read the book, written by Anna Quindlen, that the movie was based on. Turns out this woman is a writer after my own heart. Not only does she write incredible, realistic fiction, but she also happens to be a Pulitzer prize winning journalist. Rock on, Anna! CUPID: I love this show. I don't watch a lot of TV, but there were two really good new shows that premiered this season, and this is one of them (keep reading and you'll see what the other one is). Unfortunately, they stuck this clever, witty program in the nightmare Saturdays at 10 slot, so it hasn't gotten much of a viewership, but ABC is moving it to Thursdays at 9, so maybe it'll have a better chance there. Watch it - Jeremy Piven is hilarious! FELICITY: And here's my other new favourite. It's not just another teen soap - this show is intelligently written, well-acted, and just plain addictive. Plus, any first-year university student has gotta be able to identify with Felicity. I know I do!
Okey-dokey. Let's see what I have to vent about this time... THE WEATHER: We were having a lovely winter before the biggest snowstorm Toronto's had in 42 years decided to all come down at once. :P Now, thanks to the snow, it takes me two and a half hours to get to freakin' school every day. Let's just say that it's not fun. WRITER'S BLOCK: Do you know what it's like to be in the middle of three stories, plus have five articles to write, on deadline, and be totally blocked? Three days in a row this week, I've turned on my computer, sat there, and stared at a blank screen for an hour before giving up and turning it off. Argh! BRITNEY SPEARS: My little sister, Classic Teenybopper of the World, has discovered yet another really really annoying new pop star to add to her collection of The Evil Ones (BSB) and Friends. :P This time, it's a sixteen-year-old chick named Britney Spears who sings bubblegum pop in an annoying nasal, completely unmelodic voice. Heaven help us all. &*#@$! NOTEBOOKS: Why do all notebooks that aren't spiral bounds have this tendency of breaking in half if you try to bend the pages over? It's very very very annoying.
